We are a vocational college specializing in 9-month healthcare programs located in Carson, CA looking to hire a hard working and experienced financial aid advisor to support our student body. This position requires a customer service oriented individual that has compassion and a willingness to support diverse populations. The financial aid advisor provides information and customer service to students applying for financial aid, collects verification paperwork and submits complete files to our third party financial aid processor for processing. The financial aid officer performs complex clerical duties in the processing of applications and forms for financial aid programs, determines student eligibility, and interprets and applies federal and state regulations and institutional policies and procedures.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Supervision is received by the Director of Financial Aid.

May provide work direction to student workers.

Examples of Duties:

Provides financial aid information to students regarding application procedures, federal and state laws and regulations, eligibility criteria and satisfactory academic progress guidelines.

Informs students of their financial aid application and award status.

Enters and updates student financial aid data on financial aid management computer system.

Reviews forms submitted by students for completion, accuracy and compliance.

Reviews ISIR and collects necessary documentation.

Reviews student financial aid application files to determine initial student eligibility and determines when additional documentation is required by federal or state regulation or office policy.

May be assigned a support function, such as, processing of BOG awards, reviewing student loan applications, maintaining office forms inventory, etc.

Organizes and maintains all student files, file storage and historical records, including disposing of student records in accordance with federal regulations and college policy.

Maintains confidentiality of records and complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations and protecting the privacy of student records.

Provides work direction and training to student workers.

May verify time sheets for student workers.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of:

Title IV Financial Aid i.e. Direct Loans, Pell Grants, etc.

Office practices and procedures.

Basic math and calculations and proficient in Excel.

General knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs and regulations.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Record keeping and filing practices and procedures.

Word processing, spreadsheet and database computer software.

Ability to:

Communicate effectively with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, outside agencies and the public.

Maintain confidentiality of files and records.

Understand, interpret and apply laws, regulations and program procedures.

Work as a team member with minimal direct supervision.

Manage a high volume workload and work under pressure.

Gather and compile statistical and financial data.

Establish and oversee systems and procedures pertaining to financial aid programs.

Present clear and concise oral and written reports.

Maintain and organize specialized files and records.

Analyze a variety of data and make appropriate recommendations.

Operate a computer, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet and database software.

Train and provide work direction to others.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Minimum 7 years of recent Title IV financial aid experience.

Has excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail.

Pay: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour

  • 8 hour shift
