POSITION SUMMARY:
The Haynes Corporate Trainer should be a visionary and collaborative leader serving the educational and development needs of Haynes Associates. The Corporate Trainer is the chief academic and administrative officer of Haynes University and is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership in all areas, including teaching, research, and service. This role reports directly to the General Manager and works closely with craft instructors, staff, students, alumni, Associates, and business community to further the school’s mission and strategic goals.

- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Demonstrated ability to teach, mentor, and develop Associates
- Position requires at least 10 years of experience in a related role. Experience as a faculty member or administrator is preferred. Experience in a leadership role, such as a department chair or HVAC/BAS supervision, is also preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills as well as the ability to work flexibly with other team members
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other job duties may be assigned that are not included in the job description.
- Develop and implement long-range plans for Haynes University
- Possess the interpersonal and communication skills necessary to build consensus and foster a collaborative environment
- Develop and administrate academic policies and procedures for the department, including overseeing curriculum development and implementation, assessment of student progress, and grading of exams or papers
- Develop and maintain relationships with students, Craft instructors, parents, Associates, and other members of the community
- Ensure that students receive quality instruction in a safe environment by monitoring students’ progress and intervening when necessary
- Manage student records; including attendance records, academic performance, and disciplinary actions
- Oversee the administration of student examinations, including proctoring tests and making sure that exams are secure during the testing period.
- Facilitate university committees and other decision-making bodies concerning academic programs or policies
- Manage the budget for the department, including allocating resources to meet program goals, and requesting funds from the university administration for capital improvements or other expenses.
- Participate in professional development activities to keep abreast of current trends in the field and improve one’s own abilities as an educator.
- Understand and communicate the Haynes Mechanical business model and how the vision and mission of Haynes University support that model
- Integrate the Haynes University schedule with the overall Haynes calendar of events and workday constraints
- Collaborate with Haynes operational leaders to make recommendations of students to hire as Apprentices, and appointments of apprentices that graduate from Haynes University onto Haynes journeyman service teams
- Coordinate and work with Haynes operational leaders to track and evaluate On the Job Learning (OJL)
- Work with apprentices to forge a connection between off-site training, on-the-job training, and classroom learning
- Effectively audit performance of staff and recommend appropriate personnel actions, including but not limited to hiring, termination, promotion, training, and compensation
- Must work with NCCER and follow the guidelines and carry the appropriate credentials to maintain Haynes sponsorship. Keep local records as necessary for audit purposes of student records.
SAFETY COMPLIANCE:
- Ensure students and staff are familiar with all safety manuals and procedures for lab equipment
- Utilize appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and require the same of all students and staff
- Ensure students and staff are familiar with and adhere to accident/injury reporting procedures
- Participates in accident/incident reviews and remediation of identified safety issues
- Identifies safety concerns and training needs and communicates them to the Safety Manager
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Able to lift 75 lbs from floor to waist with possible repetition
- Able to lift 50 lbs from shoulder to overhead
- Able to work with both arms above head for minimum of 5 minutes
- Able to carry 50 lbs for a distance of 25 feet
- Able to push or pull 125 for a distance of 500 feet
- Able to climb stairs and ladders
- Able to carry 30 lbs while climbing stairs or a ladder
- Able to grip and operate hand tools, powers tools and safety equipment, such as chain falls
- Able to lift legs and step over obstacles up to 19 inches above the ground
- Able to perform work while in varying physical positions, such as lying on side, in a kneeling position, while standing on a ladder
- Able to access rooftop units and work at heights and in some cases tight or enclosed spaces
- Able to wear a respirator if conditions require; may have exposure to potentially harmful chemicals or materials
- Able to crawl for a distance of 200 feet
- Able to stoop, crouch or kneel for up to 10 minutes at a time
- Vision: Correctable to 20/20 with no color blindness
- Hearing: Correctable to normal range
Salary Range: $95,000 - $125,000
- The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
